Here’s a list of craft beer gift ideas that we recommend (and wouldn’t mind getting ourselves).

  • 1. BOTTLE OPENERS

You can never go wrong with a nice bottle opener. No matter what it will always come in handy. Check out this

  • 5. BEER BOTTLE CHILLING COASTER SET

Having your beer get warm after opening it is one of the worst things that can happen. These coasters take away that problem. Just store them in your fridge and take them out when its time to drink. They’ll keep your drink cold and refreshing the entire time you’re drinking!

  • 6. REGRAINED BARS

Regrained takes the spent grain from breweries and turns them into power bars. With three unique flavors these bars are delicious and fun to eat. Knowing that you’re eating the grain that was used to make beer makes it taste that much better!

The Benefits of Bottling Beer

THE BENEFITS OF BOTTLING BEER:
WHY YOU SHOULD CONSIDER BOTTLES
INSTEAD OF CANS FOR YOUR CRAFT BEERS

If you’ve been paying attention to the beer industry in the past few years, you’ve probably noticed that some beer producers are starting to gravitate towards packaging their beers in cans rather than in bottles.

Can enthusiasts cite various reasons why cans are better than bottles when it comes to packaging beer. From the fact that cans cool down faster and are less breakable to the fact that cans are often the cheaper packaging option for beer producers, there are certainly perks to canning beer.

But while the can trend has certainly taken hold in the beer industry, there are a few good reasons why packaging beer in bottles is still a great option. Here are just a few of the reasons why you may want to continue bottling beer despite the fact that other brewers have made the switch to cans.

5 KEY BENEFITS OF BOTTLING BEER

  • 1. FLAVOR

It has long been argued that aluminum cans impact the flavor of the beers they contain, giving beer a metallic taste that beer drinkers don’t particularly enjoy. This may be based on personal taste, it may be a myth, or it may be true – it’s an argument that is still up for debate. However, by bottling your craft beers in glass bottles, you avoid any chance that the flavor of your beer will be impacted by the container it’s packaged in.

Can enthusiasts also argue that cans are better at protecting beer from exposure to light and air, which can cause beers to go flat and spoil more easily. While this may be true, bottles are also very effective at protecting the beer they contain. Dark colored bottles keep out light while tightly sealed caps keep out unwanted air. When it comes to beer flavor and freshness, bottles are still a worthy choice.

  • 2. TEMPERATURE

Those who prefer canned beer tend to boast about the fact that beer in cans cools down faster than beer in bottles. While this might be true, beer bottles actually stay cold longer, keeping beer refreshingly chilled so you can enjoy every last drop at a deliciously cool temperature. If your craft beer is one that you hope customers will sip and savor, bottles are the way to go!

  • 3. NO BPA

BPA, or bisphenol A, is a synthetic chemical that has long been used in the lining of aluminum beer cans. Studies have shown that it is possible that BPA could migrate from beer cans into the beer. Though it’s tasteless and odorless, BPA may have harmful effects on humans, including interfering with the reproductive and nervous systems, and disrupting biological processes.

Glass bottles are free from BPA, so when you bottle your brews you don’t have to worry for a minute about harmful chemicals seeping into your beer and being consumed by those who drink it. Though studies are still being conducted to determine how harmful BPA truly is, bottles remain the safer choice.

  • 4. TRADITION

Beer was traditionally packaged in glass bottles. While a good number of brewers have branched out and started producing their beers in cans, many authentic brewers have continued this tradition of bottling beer as well. If you’re new to the industry (or even if you’re not), bottling your beer is a great way to participate in the traditional art of beer brewing.

  • 5. AESTHETIC

Bottled beer has a certain air of quality to it that canned beer simply can’t replicate. Cans are cheaper and less refined than elegant glass bottles when it comes to appearance. In contrast, glass bottles come in different sizes, shapes, and styles. They can be sealed with a variety of unique caps or corked to give them an even more distinct look.

Craft beer tends to have a certain vibe to it that is captured best in a classic bottle. Because bottles are incredibly versatile, they give craft brewers the opportunity to create a very unique look and brand. Cans, on the other hand, are just cans – the only feature that can be adjusted is their label.

As a result, bottles are more appealing to the consumer and some consumers see bottled beer as higher quality. If you want your beer to exude quality, class and craftiness, bottles are the better option.

BEER BOTTLING MADE EASY

When it comes to packaging craft beverages, consumer preferences may shift and change with the times. While cans may continue to gain popularity, we can say with confidence that bottled beer isn’t going anywhere.

Whether you’re in the microbrew industry now or you’re looking to get your start in the craft beverage industry, DK Advanced Technologies can help you bottle beers affordably and efficiently. Our MicroBottler, a compact, semi-automatic bottle filling and capping machine, can make a huge difference when it comes to simplifying the beer bottling process.

A versatile bottling line designed with craft beverage brewers in mind, the MicroBottler can be quickly and easily adjusted to accommodate bottles in a variety of shapes and sizes. It’s the perfect option for small breweries that want to bottle and cap their brews efficiently, without losing the charm and appeal of a uniquely designed beer bottle.

TURN YOUR HOME BREWING INTO A BUSINESS: HERE’S HOW!

    TURN YOUR HOME BREWING
    INTO A BUSINESS: HERE’S HOW!

They say if you choose a job that you love, you will never work a day in your life. If you’re a home brewer, expanding your hobby into a profitable business is one way you can ensure that the work you do to earn a living will never feel like work.

Wondering how to go about turning your home brewing into a business or perhaps even starting a brewery of your own? Here are some tips to help you make it happen!

5 TIPS FOR HOME BREWERS LOOKING TO START A BREWERY

    • 1. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE

Brewing good beer takes time – and lots of practice! If you’re like most home brewers, you’ve likely had a batch or two of beer turn out to be terrible. Before you can take your home brewing hobby to the next level, you’ll need to master the basics of beer brewing. That’s not to say that you won’t have a bad batch once in a while – even the best brewers produce a dud occasionally. But before you expand your hobby into a business, you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of experience brewing your own beer. Be sure you are producing a beer you like with consistency and you’re completely comfortable reproducing the brew before you take the next step.

    • 2. EXPERIMENT AND BE CREATIVE

Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb and try something unique or different while you’re brewing. Add some exotic ingredients. Test out flavor combinations you’re unsure of.  If you want to be successful as a home brewer turned entrepreneur, you’ll most likely have to come up with something original that’s never been done before. As a result, don’t shy away from experimenting and getting creative with your brews!

    • 3. GO FOR IT!

Taking your brewing to the next level can be intimidating. Whether you’re widening your distribution by sharing your latest batch with family and friends or you’re partnering with other avid home brewers to establish a local microbrewery, growing your hobby and putting yourself out there can take some guts. When it comes to expanding your home brewing into a business, don’t let your fear of failure hold you back. Be smart about the decisions you make, do your best to think things through, and brace yourself for things to not go as planned – but once you feel like you’re ready to take the next step, go for it!

    • 4. DON’T GIVE UP

As an entrepreneur trying to get a start and gain traction in any industry, it can be easy to get discouraged. If your break into the microbrew market isn’t going as planned, don’t give up. Do your best to use the adversity you face to make you a better brewer and businessperson. Keep your eye out for opportunities and resources you may be able to take advantage of and be patient. Remember: even the biggest and most successful microbreweries had to start somewhere. Good things take time!

    • 5. INVEST IN THE EQUIPMENT YOU NEED

Set yourself up for success by investing in the microbrewing equipment and products you need to expand your hobby into a business. Do what you can to find affordable bottles and caps without skimping on quality. Consider labeling your beers to give them a professional, polished look. As you continue to scale your distribution and build your brewery, keep in mind that there may come a time when you’ll need to invest in infrastructure that will help to keep things running smoothly. Keep an eye out for products like the MicroBottler from DK Advanced Technologies, which are designed with avid home brewers and small microbreweries in mind. These types of beer brewing and bottling equipment are priced affordably but can make a huge difference in increasing efficiency.

    FROM HOME BREWER, TO ENTREPRENEUR!

If you’re an avid home brewer and beer lover, building your hobby into a business by starting a brewery and entering the bottled beer market is not out of the question!

ARGYLE BREWING COMPANY & DK ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES FEATURED IN ‘EDIBLE CAPITAL DISTRICT’!

A few months ago, our good friends at Argyle Brewing Company were featured in Edible Capital District Magazine, a local magazine that covers the food scene throughout the Albany-Saratoga Region.

The article, titled “The Hometown Heroes of Argyle Brewing Company,” tells the story of Argyle Brewing Company, a small upstate New York brewery in Greenwich that focuses on using the best local ingredients to craft delicious locally-sourced beers.

The brewery originated when three passionate home brewers – Chris Castrio, Matt Stewart and Rich Thomas – combined forces, creating the first farm brewery in Washington County back in 2014. Since then, Argyle Brewing Company has continued to grow and gain popularity, becoming a staple in the local community and Upstate NY.
